The summer concert in Kristkirken on the 20th of May, was the last appearance of our conducter Gorm Larsen in this era. Gorm has been the conductor of Mpiri since early 2003, and in that period he has been instigator of a major change in Mpiri. His drive has propelled Mpiri from being a good to being better than good. He has transformed the ensemble from being individuals focusing on singing correct, to being individuals being fully aware of each other on the quest to make music. His influence has been remarkable.
Elvis left the building on a high note, ending with a fine concert on a fantastic summers day in the heart of Copenhagen. Many had opted to attend the concert inspite of the fantastic weather. Together it seemed that we had a good time. Mpiri enjoyed enterpreting Sibelius, Veljo Tormis, Holmboe, Sunleif Rasmussen and others, and the audience seemed pleased.
It is always sad to part ways with people who have influenced your life, and so it is with Gorm, but we see this as an opportunity. It is now time to stir things up a bit, and start exploring in new directions. Mpiri has begun the process of finding the successor of Gorm, and we are enthusiastic about this task.
